The importance of being deliberate

In the latest episode of Leadership Recipes (available on all your favourite platforms as well as here), we meet Jean-Noël Dargnies, a veteran of the global aluminium industry.

Jean-Noël has experienced not one but two major transitions. First from aluminium giant Alcan/Rio Tinto. He wanted to do something meaningful, so he returned to the elite school which had prepared him for a high-flying engineering and management career, this time as the school Director. Then, after two mandates, he took formal retirement but was not prepared to stop contributing. So he became the global Chair of Handicap International (Humanity and Inclusion in English): a federation of NGOs active in over 50 countries.

The podcast is about his career, his values in action and… seafood. If you are not familiar with the programme, I interview leaders and ask them about their favourite dish: after all, you are what you eat… In this case, Jean-Noël has some very specific recommendations about Leadership Transition: “You should not just wait for things coming to you, you should try to reflect and to prepare to build what will follow your professional career with the same spirit as the one you used for build your career”. His tips are very useful.
